Annual Meeting:  July 28th

The annual meeting and summer party of Troupers Light Opera will be held on Saturday, July 28h beginning at 4:00.  Once again Silloo Madden is hosting.  Her address is 224 Frogtown  ng a picnic dinner, blankets and chairs.   The board will supply sodas and other soft drinks, but bring your own wine, beer, etc.  A grill will be available.  The business meeting will begin at 6:00, followed at 8:00 by John von Sneidern’s slides of Pirates of Penzance.   At the business meeting will we will be voting on next year’s show (see below) and on the 2001-2002 board of directors, as well as other business.  We will be organizing committees to help with the production as well.  This is a great time to bring friends and prospective members of the Troupers family.

Directions:  From either direction:  Take the Merritt Parkway, Exit 36.  Turn left onto Route 106.  There is a light at the end of the ramp where you make your turn.  At the next light veer left onto Weed Avenue (106 goes off to the right).  After approximately a mile and a half, you will come to Frogtown Road on the left.  Silloo’s house is number 224.  Any questions, call Barbara Stretton 203-637-5845.

2002 Show Selection to Feature Double Bill: Trial by Jury and H.M.S. Pinafore

A committee of three, including Bill Abbott, Guy Stretton and Barbara Stretton with board approval at the June meeting, are proposing the double bill of Trial by Jury and H.M.S. Pinafore.  Though we did H.M.S. Pinafore alone in 1993, we haven’t done Trial  since 1987.  It’s a great little opera and goes well with the shorter G&S.  It can’t be done alone.  It’s also good for programs around the community, so if we have it together, we might do some marketing of Troupers’ name after the show.

Pinafore is always popular and a crowd-pleaser and, once again, we need to draw bigger crowds.  We had a lot of expenses with Pirates because of so many last minute changes, so we lost money.  (How much?  Our treasurer Guy Stretton will let us know when he’s finished balancing the books).

Market Street Cleanup:  Workers Needed

Bill Simons tells us that our set building and storage center on Market Street needs cleaning and organizing.  Work begins on Saturday, June 23h at 10:00.  This is a great way to get back into the swing and meet new people.  Give Bill a call for directions.  His number is 203-324-7742.   We’ll have a birthday cake there for Barbara Stretton too.  Come help and help celebrate!
