p. 127: Men enter from stage right,
beginning with David Root and followed by David Shimchick, Bernie, Rich,
Izzy, Dexter, Bill A., Jim, Guy, Martin, Bill L., and Larry.
p.127: "Carefully on tiptoe stealing"
Men sneak in; do not step to rhythm.
p. 127: Captain stamps: Men flinch and
break out of line (BUT WATCH KEITH).
p. 128: When Dick sings "It was the
cat", Men get back into line, relieved.
p. 128: Captain stamps: Men flinch and break
out of line (BUT WATCH KEITH).
p. 129: When Dick sings "It was the
cat", Men get back into line.
p. 129: As Men sing "It was again that
cat" they dress their line.
p. 129: When Captain sings "They're right....
it was the cat", Dexter, Bill A., Jim and Guy pull upstage toward
the gangway, preparing to depart. Rest of men will follow them.
pp. 129-130: As quartet is singing, men are
gradually moving to depart. (MEN MUST REMEMBER TO SING "We
will steal away.")
p. 131 On Captain's "Hold", Dexter,
Bill A., Guy, and Jim retreat downstage to original position. Bill L.
and Martin go even further to downstage right. Men
form diagonal line.
p. 132: (MUSICAL NOTES: Men BREATHE before
"Now hark at that, do". Emphasize THUMP and COMP-any.)
p. 134-135-136: As Amy and David are singing
their duet and men sing "He is an Englishman", WOMEN are gradually
coming onto the upper deck with Sir Joseph and Sam.
p. 135: As men sing "He is an
Englishman", Men come forward, filling in around Larry and blocking
Corcoran from Ralph. MEN FORM MESSY SINGLE LINE, with Bill A., Martin,
and Guy in it.
p. 136: As Boatswain sings his solo, MEN FORM TWO
NEAT LINES (Bill A., Bill L., Martin, and Guy form a back row), AND LOOK
PATRIOTIC.
p. 137: As men sing "For in spite of all
temptations", they move forward to center front (but maintain double
line).
p. 139: On each "Oh,", MEN TAKE A STEP
BACK. David Root, David Shimchick, Izzy, and Rich step to the right to
make an opening for Sir Joseph.
140: On Sir J's "My pain and my distress,
WOMEN come down gangplank in single file, helped by Sam. Women form
double-line formation on stage left. (Front row, left to right:
Anne-Marie, Silloo, Michelle, Maureen. Back row, left to right: Diana,
Christina, Wendy, Lia, Joan, Kathleen). In front of the women, left to
right, are Amy, Linda, Monica, and Sam.
p. 145: As chorus sings "For he himself has
said it," CHORUS COMES FORWARD BUT MAINTAINS LINES.
No. 19: "Farewell My Own"
pp. 146-48: As soloists and quartet sing,
CHORUS LOOKS IN, PAYING ATTENTION TO THEM.
p. 149: When Octet starts, it SINGS OUT TO
AUDIENCE.

p. 149: (MUSICAL NOTE): Chorus starts
"For crime unknown PIANO! It builds to a crescendo
at "dungeon cell."
p. 151: (MUSICAL NOTE): Chorus STAY IN RHYTHM
and don't slow down on "How terrible the aspect of his eyes." ("terrible"
is a dotted EIGHTH and a SIXTEENTH; the rest are EIGHTHS.
No.20: "A many years ago"
151-152: Immediately after Buttercup
finishes "confess" (p. 151), chorus GATHERS AROUND HER, listening
avidly, crouching in.
152-156: (MUSICAL NOTE): Whenever the chorus
sings its response to Buttercup, it starts PIANO, and builds to a FORTE,
then takes the last two-and-a-half measures ("A many years
ago") PIANO again.
p. 156: (MUSICAL NOTE): Rallentando on
last two measures of singing.
p. 156: After finishing singing, everyone
snaps back out of listening crouch, into straight lines again.
No. 21 Finale: "Oh Joy oh Rapture
Unforeseen"
p. 161: (MUSICAL NOTE): MEN, in singing
"And though before his fall he was captain of us all," WATCH
KEITH AND DO NOT RUSH.
p. 166: Chorus stay in place for "For he
is an Englishman," and then, on "For he himself has said it,"
FRONT ROW WOMEN CROSS OVER TO FRONT ROW MEN. Back
row women take a step forward. BACK ROW MEN CROSS OVER AND FORM
LINE BEHIND BACK ROW WOMEN.
p. 166-67: (MUSICAL NOTE): Emphasize "AND
it's greatly to his credit THAT he is an English man, That HE is an English
man.
p. 167: (MUSICAL NOTE): On next to last measure
("Eng...lish man") DO NOT CUT OFF BETWEEN "ENG" and "LISH"!
